  • Correct procedure to join AFGE Local 2139

    Please find attached the newest version of the SF-1187.  

    This is the form employees complete when they wish to join the union.

    You will note that there are several key changes compared to previous editions of this form.

    At the bottom of this form, you will see that there are sections for rebates.  Our Local will give $100 to new members (AFGE will reimburse us the full amount).

    In Section A, there is a letter C and a letter L.  The C means Council; we are Council 073.  The L means Local; we are Local 2139.

    The top says "Please print in BLOCK UPPERCASE LETTERING using black ink".  Please comply.  Blue ink, pink ink, and all other colors of ink do not easily copy or scan.

    We must have the full Social Security Number.  AFGE and DOL demand it.  Do not accept a form with this blank or only the last four digits.

    The e-mail address cannot be dol.gov.  We must have a non-government e-mail address.

    Please note that this version of the SF-1187 is clear that AFGE wants personal e-mail addresses (NOT GOVERNMENT E-MAIL ADDRESSES).

    The processing of this form has not changed.

    After the new member completes the form, please scan it and e-mail it to me so that I can sign at Section B (I am the only authorized signer).  I will process it with AFGE and OASAM, and then give it to Treasurer Mike Bennett so he can send a check to the new member and then request reimbursement from AFGE.

    Once the employee signs the form, it becomes an official government form and can be scanned and e-mailed using DOL equipment.
